10 Tips for Your Fundraising Campaign that ACTUALLY Help

The word “campaign” scares a lot of people. However, by having a structured fundraising effort, you can maximize your philanthropic potential and make a difference – who doesn’t want to be part of that!

  1. Develop a strong case for support – Communicate the need, your vision and the impact that a gift will make. Inspire your supporters with strong messaging.

  2. Set a fundraising goal – Be specific with what you are trying to accomplish. Focus on the dollars needed and set specific, measurable goals so that you can inspire action and track financial growth and results.

  3. Recruit volunteers to be actively involved in your effort – People give to people – especially people that they know and trust. Engage your biggest supporters to share why they are involved and invite their friends to join them in support of your cause!

  4. Ask your best prospects first – Do a prospect rating session to determine who is most likely to give based on ability, inclination and access.

  5. Focus time and effort on major gifts – Spend a disproportionate amount of time dedicated to those transformational gift asks that will generate the greatest return on investment.

  6. Celebrate successes – Every milestone is an opportunity to celebrate the impact and difference your volunteers and donors are making. Use these opportunities to harness the enthusiasm and keep the momentum moving forward!

  7. Communicate with your donors consistently – People want to know what is going on with your organization. Share stories about real people their generosity is helping. They have invested in you so don’t forget to give them updates on how their gift is making an impact.

  8. Work to continually expand your donor pipeline – You can only build a habit of giving if you get that first gift. Take specific action to acquire new donors and build relationships with them.

  9. Prioritize recognition and stewardship – Take the time to recognize and thank your donors. By having a stewardship plan with specific touchpoints, you begin to build meaningful relationships with your supporters and they look forward to hearing from you.

  10. Don’t forget to ask for continued support – All too often we miss opportunities to keep our existing donors engaged. We must remember to keep inviting them to grow with us – if we don’t ask them to give again, someone else will and we risk losing them.
