SERVICES > Board Retreats
Objective
Design and help implement an effective planning agenda in an extended meeting/retreat format to provide an understanding and direction for the board as a whole, as well as the individual members. That understanding can include board members' role in fundraising, industry issues and current trends, potential financial goals, and how the strategic plan of the foundation is integrated with the plans of the organization.
Elements of the Service
- Information gathering from staff and selected board leadership beforehand to select pertinent topics and develop an educational agenda designed to elicit participation and input from attendees
- Comprehensive integration of the organization's strategic plan with the future plans, objectives and direction of the foundation
- Conducting an interactive, entertaining session to help attendees self-identify into the fundraising role that suits them best, whether connecting to prospects, cultivating and informing about the project, or closing the gift
- Determining the projects that have constituent appeal and will yield the greatest financial results
- Establishing realistic yet challenging goals for both dollars raised and activities
- Sharing fundraising trends including statistical and anecdotal information to serve as a platform for future foundation projects and direction
- Implementation of a workable foundation board structure based on constituent needs with members assigned to specific roles with written job descriptions and clear expectations of duties
Expected Outcome
A well formulated plan will allow for more effective integration of the foundation into the overall organization's strategic plan. Board members will leave with a clear and comfortable vision of their specific roles and responsibilities in relation to fundraising for specific projects and programs. Appropriate goals will be set as a result of "buy in" and clearer understanding by those who are responsible for attaining the results.
